Speak to fellow freelancers - before you commit

The freelancing community can be a great sense check before you leap into your first contract with a new client. Use it.

What

Spend some time with your fellow freelancers to ask questions before you commit to a contract.

Why

Especially in the early stages of freelancing, it’s hugely valuable to sense check your approach with fellow freelancers.

Ask any questions you have about your contract, the engagement, the day rate, and even the client.

You may even find that others in your community have worked with the client before - and can offer some useful insights.

There’s never any harm in talking it through with others, before you sign a contract - to help you feel reassured.

How

1/ Find fellow freelancers via some of our community suggestions - there are plenty of groups, forums, and communities you can join.

2/ Ask your questions and consider the answers - remember, everyone’s situation is different and experience is unique - but take on board any comments you might hear.

3/ If you’re still unsure - take a moment to try and understand where your worries are coming from. Is it because this is something new, or do you have a specific concern or instinct that something doesn’t feel right?
